Pain is only present when good anesthesia cannot be obtained, which is rare. When root canal treatment is started, the pulp chamber and the canals are cleaned. Then they are shaped in a way so that a filling can be easily placed in the canals. Following cleaning and shaping, the canals are filled. A crown is placed after a tooth has received root canal treatment and it will be done on a separate appointment. A front tooth receiving a root canal therapy may not require a crown and this will depend on individual cases. Dr. Suchman will assess whether a specialist (an endodontist) is needed to treat some root canals.
